Sensitive skin is a wide term that is caused by a wide array of triggers: it reveals itself by redness, allergic reactions, broken capillaries, break outs, itchiness, swelling, hyperpigmentation and and and. It can be caused by external factors such as pollution, change of season (e.g. humidty levels, pollen) or internal factors such as nutrition, medication, stress and so forth. Often it is hard to pinpoint what exactly is causing sensitive skin individually.

Research has shown that a healthy skin barrier is able to fight off most causes. You have probably heard about the skin's Microbiome before but usually it was always focused on acneic conditions only. However, an imbalanced Microbiome causes an impaired skin barrier function and leads to a level of dehydration that causes even further sensitivity.
Therefore, Dr. Grandel combines several active ingredients that tackles the triggers from different angles.
There are two main ingredients in Sensicode: The Skin Biotic Balancer and the Skin Calming Complex.
The Skin Biotic Balancer is obtained from a Lysate of the positive bacteria Lactococcus lactis. Lysate means it is a solution that contains fragments such as DNA, metabolites, cell plasma compounds and cell wall materials. The Lysate is created by a fermentation process. Studies have shown that the Lysate is actually more potent than the whole living probiotic bacterial cell.
This Lysate acts almost like a zipper – it zips up any damages in the barrier; it strengthens the cohesion of cells and their cooperation. Since the cells are better connected and communicate better now, the natural exfoliation process is intensified which improves and strenghtens the natural barrier function. It also balances the skin’s Microbiome which is crucial to protect against pathogens, environmental influences and premature aging.
The other main ingredient is the Skin Calming Complex which is a combination of two extracts: one from “Reed” which is a large aquatic grass and a fungus called “Fu-Ling” which grows on the roots of pine trees. Fu-Ling or Poria cocos is used in Chinese Medicine for Centuries to treat inflammation, water retention, insomnia and is known as the “medicine of immortality”.
Both extracts together have shown to reduce the loss in cellular energy levels in several studies; to down-regulate pro-inflammatory mediators and quickly reduces redness, especially after being inflamed by UV radiation.
Furthermore, Sensicode contains Evening Primrose Seed oil and Borage Oil.
Both oils have a high amount of Gamma Linoleic acid (GLA). Clients who suffer from Eczema, Psoriasis and Dermatitis are lacking GLA’s so these two oils are extremely valuable for them and for sensitive skin in general.
