Snow Algae fights Aging?

Updated: Jun 13, 2019

Yep, it does. And it is pretty extensively researched.

But let's go back one step. Let's look at Aging. Aging is a very short word for what it harbors: our skin is losing elasticity and vitality, wrinkles start to form, our bones get brittle, illnesses like diabetes occur, our metabolism slows down, etc. Basically aging is another word for breakdown. But research gives hope, not just in the form of supplements but also in skincare.

Skin reveals what is going on within. We all know that UV radiation is causing some of our skin issues but what we feed our body with plays a much bigger role. Most of us have heard of Glycation for example which means wrinkle formation caused by sugar that acts like glue for Collagen fibers. However, fewer of us have heard that the amount of calories is important for our skin as well.

It has been found that Calorie Restriction is not only helping with fat loss - it rejuvenates literally every cell in our Body!

Calorie Restriction blocks the Insulin Growth Factor (IGF) by activating the Gene KLOTHO. High IGF’s cause oxidative stress, toxify and have shown to result in cancer. Low IGF’s diminish oxidative stress and detoxify.

The protein FOXO that activates detoxification and DNA repair is inactivated by Insulin! KLOTHO blocks the IGF-receptor, the “door” for Insulin.

What does that have to do with Snow Algae?

Snow Algae mimics the effect of Calorie Restriction! Simple as that. The "how" is a little bit more complicated.

Snow Algae grows on top of Glaciers. In the summer time when it is covered less with snow and thus exposed to higher UV radiation, it turns red! In the winter time it is green. It synthesizes secondary carotinoids, hence the red color, which protects the algae from the UV exposure. Additionally, the cells stop growing and the Algae enters into a dormant stage. In its dormant stage, Snow Algae has an increased amount of Antioxidant, Polyphenols and Biopolymers. These are very important metabolites!

One of my favorite active ingredients Research & Development companies, Mibelle Biotech of Switzerland, found a way to extract these cells in its most potent form. Encapsulated into Liposomes, a very effective dermal carrier system, it is able to reach the Basal Layer in no time.

Proven results:

- Stimulates Klotho, thus activates FOXO resulting in DNA Repair and detoxification

- Activates AMPK (AMP-activated kinase), the cellular sensor for energy. Naturally it is activated when energy levels are low like after working out. High AMPK levels also induce FOXO leading to increased Lifespan. Nutritional overload impairs AMPK.

- Decrease in wrinkle depth with 2% Snow Algae after 28 days

- Increases the Papillary layer which is essential for nutrient exchange from dermis to epidermis

- Inhibits enzymes destructive to Collagen fibers by up to 47%
